On the 21st of October 2022, the double album 57 MAZURKI was released at the label Zefir Records.

THE MAZURKI PROJECT
With great pleasure Jakko van der Heijden, label manager at Zefir Records, and Maurice Lammerts van Bueren joined forces in The Mazurka Project. During the lockdown they recorded the complete mazurka's by Frédéric Chopin.
Maurice's story about his passion for Chopin's mazurkas:"Since my childhood I play mazurkas.The record on the photo below I brought along from the parental home. As long as I can recall that record was standing in the record-rack and more than once Artur Rubinstein, whom I still consider the greatest pianist ever, played these gems through our speakers. My parents loved Rubinstein's records, especially when he was playing Chopin. It was an easy way for me as a child to get familiar with Rubinstein's Steinway sound as well as with Chopin's mazurkas. At the age of eleven, I won my first competition with a mazurka. The following years I continued playing mazurkas and I never stopped playing them. A few years ago, I recorded two mazurkas to complement a Polish art song cd that I recorded at Zefir Records. Jakko and I shared the same thought:"Let's record all of them!"
And so it happened. On the 16th of September 2021, the first mazurka was posted online, on the 13th of October the last mazurka will close the project.
Soon after the series ends, the recordings will be released on the double cd 57 MAZURKI.

THE MAZURKI PROJECT
Met enorm veel plezier hebben Jakko van der Heijden van Zefir Records en pianist Maurice Lammerts van Bueren zich tijdens de lockdown gestort op The Mazurki Project, waarbij iedere week een nieuwe mazurka te beluisteren is op het gelijknamige YouTube-kanaal. Het Radio 4-programma De Klassieken besteedt aandacht aan het project. Zo was Maurice live te gast op de dag waarop het project startte, kwam hij halverwege het project langs en zal hij bij de afsluiting eveneens komen optreden in het radioprogramma.
Maurice vertelt over zijn liefde voor de mazurka's:”Mijn hele pianoleven speel ik al mazurka’s. De plaat op bijgaande foto nam ik mee uit het ouderlijk huis. Zolang ik me kan herinneren hadden wij die plaat in het platenrek staan en regelmatig speelde Artur Rubinstein, voor mij nog altijd de grootste pianist aller tijden, deze meesterwerken van Chopin onze huiskamer in via de indrukwekkende staande boxen. Mijn ouders draaiden graag platen van Rubinstein, het liefst met werken van Chopin. En zo raakte ik niet alleen vertrouwd met de Steinway-klank van Rubinstein, maar ook met de mazurka’s. Toen ik 11 jaar was won ik mijn allereerste concours met een mazurka van Chopin. Sindsdien zijn de mazurkas niet meer weg te denken uit mijn muzikale leven. Een paar jaar geleden nam ik voor Zefir Records een CD op met Poolse liederen met daarop ter afwisseling twee mazurka’s van Chopin. Jakko en ik dachten hetzelfde: misschien moeten we ze allemaal opnemen?”
En zo geschiedde: op 16 september 2021 verscheen de eerste mazurka online, op 13 oktober 2022 is de serie compleet.
Als de serie voltooid is, verschijnen alle mazurka's op het dubbelalbum 57 MAZURKI. De releasedatum van deze dubbel-cd is op 21 oktober 2022, het presentatieweekend vindt plaats in het Concertgemaal in Amsterdam op 22 en 23 oktober.
